Historique :	L'inscription qui jusqu'alors était prise à tort pour la signature du peintre Jean Marc Huet, semble plus vraisemblablement être une dédicace rappelant le nom du donateur. Si son prénom, Jean Marc, est parfaitement lisible, rappelant ainsi le thème iconographique de la toile, son nom l'est plus difficilement, suite à un raccourcissement de la toile au moment de l'encadrement. Malgré tout l'hypothèse la plus plausible est de lire Jalaguier : en effet, ce nom n'est pas inconnu dans l'histoire de Clermont et on le retrouve : inscrit sur la cuve de la chaire de 1638.
